| Hello, I have Windows 7 Profession 64 Bit on my laptop and I used the standard sound device driver. (In Presonus Settings the audio device is 'Windows audio'.) When I connect the music keyboard (Yamaha PSR-E433) to my PC via a USB cable, I can feel a small latency. If I use an external voice of Presonus (let's say GrandPiano) together with the GrandPiano voice of the PSR-E433, it sounds a bit like an echo. The input latency is 10 ms and the output latency is 20 ms. Sure this is not much, but it is noticeable while playing. Then I downloaded ASIO4ALL v2 and set it as a device in Presonus. Right now both the input latency and the output latency is 3 ms. Sadly I can't test this result today (I'm not at home today), but I don't know the practical influence of the block size.. In the manual it says it's some kind of buffer which is in relation to performance and plugins. Well, since I'm pretty new I don't use any plugins (yet). My 'only' usage is that the keyboard sends the StyleOut via MIDI, and that I play bass with one hand and chords with the other hand. (Channel 3 for split voice and channel 1 for main voice). The current ASIO4 settings in Presonus are: Device block size: 128 samples Internal block size: 128 samples Process Precision: 64 Bit [x] Enable Multi-Processing + using all cores (2 cores + 2 threads) Input latency: 3.00 ms (144 samples) Output latency: 3.00 ms (144 samples) Sample Rate: 48 kHz Bit Depth: 32 Do you think this might be enough for my little usage? The bigger the block size the higher the latency - that's clear but will the PC have to work more or less? I think the PC will have to work more if the latence is low. | You are correct in that with a smaller block size the computer is constantly busy keeping up with you. Higher block sizes give your computer a 'buffer' that allows smoother processing but adds the latency you were seeing with the first driver. | I am Sir Melvis Bacon, Knight of BaconHam Palace. | Hello, I read your message but forgot to answer. Thank you for your explanations! I tried some settings, and it seems there is a good range of settings. So even if I increase the block size, the input and output latency, it's much better than with the Windows driver. I'm really fascinated. Best regards |
